How--scientifically--does Vitamin E oil repair scars?

I took the article below from paulaschoice.com

It looks like there is no proof Vitamin E helps scars. I know when my mom was in a car accident many years ago her doctor told her to use vitamin E on her scars. If doctors are saying it then people believe it. That%26#039;s probably why so many people think it helps.

Vitamin E for Scars?

The simple answer is, %26quot;Probably not.%26quot; Research published in Dermatologic Surgery, April 1999, pages 311鈥?15, concluded that the %26quot;...study shows that there is no benefit to the cosmetic outcome of scars by applying vitamin E after skin surgery and that the application of topical vitamin E may actually be detrimental to the cosmetic appearance of a scar. In 90% of the cases in this study, topical vitamin E either had no effect on, or actually worsened the cosmetic appearance of scars. Of the patients studied, 33% developed a contact dermatitis to the vitamin E.%26quot; The study was done double-blind %26quot;with patients given two ointments each labeled %26quot;A%26quot; or %26quot;B.%26quot; %26quot;A%26quot; was Aquaphor, a regular emollient, and the %26quot;B%26quot; was Aquaphor mixed with vitamin E. Patients were asked to put the A ointment on part A and the B ointment on part B twice daily for 4 weeks.%26quot; The conclusion was that vitamin E applied on the skin doesn%26#039;t appear to reduce the appearance or formation of scars. However, as many dermatologists will attest, many patients believe vitamin E prevents or reduces the appearance of scars, thus its usage and anecdotal results continue.|||all i know is vitamin e has been proven to repair and replenish skin and scars are damaged skin so i guess thats how it works. sorry i couldnt explain it better lol
